A weekend guide to Malmö with kids

In paid partnership with Malmö Town

Less than an hour from Copenhagen, Malmö is the perfect weekend getaway. We recently took a family trip, and discovered some great places that kids — but, most importantly, adults too! — will love.

In this post, I’m sharing my top 5 things to do in Skåne’s capital. From the city’s best pancakes in a beautiful, relaxed café, to beach hangs and pizza in the park; come along for a weekend in Malmö!

One of many beautiful parks: Slottsträdgården

After driving from Copenhagen, we started our weekend in Malmö in Slotträdgårdens Park, where we ended up spending almost half the day. Time passes quickly in this huge, beautiful park with loads to do!

The youngest loved inspecting the bee hotels (located close to the main entrance), the eldest loved the large playground, the adults enjoyed sitting down for lunch at the charming café inside the park, and everyone loved the ice cream truck by the canal.

Other activities here involve kayaking, SUP’ing and visiting the Japanese garden.

Other green spaces in Malmö: Folkets Park, Varvsparken, Käglinge Nature Reserve.

One of Malmö’s best cafés: Mygel

When traveling with kids, I’m all about finding places that are nice for them and adults too.. Especially when it comes to cafés and restaurants. Because I kind of hate the idea of paying good money for bad food at some random, family-friendly chain restaurant.

It doesn’t take much more than a welcoming place, with enough space for everyone (and crayons and books in a backpack!). At Mygel located in the Frihamn-area, there’s a delicious menu made from seasonal ingredients (I highly recommend the fritto misto, poached eggs, pancakes and French toast!), a large, open room, and just a really nice vibe. Go for brunch, lunch or dinner, and go if you don’t have kids as well ;)

Other great cafés in Malmö: Atrium, Solde, Bageri Leve, AB Småland, Uggla Kaffebar

A must visit: Ribersborg Beach

This place located just a few minutes from the city centre is easily one of my favourite spots in Malmö. The green, wooden bath house on the water is open to the public (unlike many bath houses, where only members are allowed). An entrance ticket is 80 SEK, kids under 7 years old enter for free, and the saunas and towels are included.

Even if you’re not up for a swim, the Ribersborg beach is just a lovely spot to hang out. There’s a playground nearby, an ice cream kiosk, and a great view to Malmö’s Turning Torso.

Folkets Park: Playgrounds, cafés, kid’s wading pools, and delicious pizza

The area around Möllevangen is a charming neighborhood with plenty of cafés, small shops, squares and green spaces. In summer, Folkets Park has wading pools for the kids, several playgrounds, and the best part: A restaurant ‘Far i Hatten’, serving really good pizzas. It has a large outdoor seating area, the vibe is relaxed and great for bringing kids, and you can pass the food waiting time at the playground just next to the restaurant.

Definitely worth a visit on a summer evening in Malmö, with or without kids!

Other restaurants in Malmö worth visiting with kids: Malmö Saluhall, SMAK at Malmö Konsthall, Spoonery St Knut (and most others restaurants around St. Knuts Square).

Aquarium visits and a (surprisingly fun!) indoor adventure land

The Malmö Museums are centrally located inside Slotträdsgårdens Park, and as the largest museum in Southern Sweden, it’s easy to spend hours in here! However, the attention span of both kids and adults in our family has its limits, so we focussed on experiencing the aquarium which was a great visit for all.

Another visit we’re still talking about at home is Funny’s Aventyr — a huge fairy tale world with some of the best universes; Alfie Atkin (Alfons Åberg), Petsson and Findus, Moomin Valley and many more. Don’t miss out on the 15 minute carousel ride, where everyone’s seated in wagons for a trip into a nicely executed fairytale world with headphones on — a huge experience for both kids!

Thank you @malmotown for a lovely weekend, and for sponsoring this post!
