Copenhagen’s most charming boutique hotel

On a cobbled street right in the historic city centre of Copenhagen lies the city’s most charming — and smallest* — boutique hotel. In fact, it’s more of a guest house with two private apartments filled with contemporary art, Danish design classics, and an exclusive feeling of home.

* There are smaller hotels in town, yes, but none quite as boutique-beautiful as The Darling, that is certain.

The Darling consists of two apartments — The Classic & The Grand — spread out on 70 and 100 sqm respectively. Each home (this is exactly how it feels; a home) holds a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom and study whilst The Grand also has an inviting dining room.

This is The Grand.

Located in the very heart of historical Copenhagen on Niels Hemmingsensgade neighbouring pedestrian street Strøget, this location is a good as it gets for anyone who wants to be in the middle of it all. Still, The Darling feels very private located on a small street in a quiet, early 18th century town house. The Grand’s charming, albeit small bedroom has a view to the neighbouring church, and the apartment offers a private balcony overlooking the church.

This is The Classic.

If you have any interest in Danish design and Midcentury Modern classics in particular, you will see many familiar pieces in these photos. Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl, Poul Kjærholm, Hans Wegner, and Børge Mogensen — they’re all here.

Created by Copenhagen creative director Uffe Buchard and Jens Løkke, The Darling also showcases contemporary art from both established and up-and-coming artists. All art pieces are available to purchase if you fall in love, and rates for a Darling apartment begin at €950 per night.

Whilst there is no shortage of design hotels in Copenhagen, a stay at The Darling surely feels more like the private home of a very stylish art collector’s. Yet, amenities here outshine most local hotels: a private driver, chef, and masseuse available, florist and even cosmetologist on request.

What else could one possibly need!
