01 | Apotek 57

The design bakery | City centre

Here’s the vibe: Drawing in design-savvy tourists and ditto Copenhageners, waiting in line to get a seat at Apotek 57 is not rare. Worthy of the hype? Definitely. Chef Chiara Barla’s menu is full of home-made, seasonal and flavourful dishes for breakfast, lunch and home-baked pastries, that are some of the best in town.

Come here for: The pastries and cakes, sweet and savory waffles, pistachio granola, zucchini toast and salads — take a look at Apotek 57 on Instagram and get inspired, everything is beautiful and, dare I promise, very tasty.

Located in the historic city centre around Nyboder; a quieter part of central Copenhagen. Next door to Apotek 57 is Frama Studio Store in an old apothecary; making this beautiful building the complete visit for any design aficionado & foodie.

02 | Amator

The neighbourhood favourite | Østerbro

Here’s the vibe: With jazzy tones playing from vinyl records and a cosy, laid-back atmosphere, this small café has quickly become a favourite spot amongst both locals and tourists since opening in spring of 2024. Grab a spot at the long wooden communal table inside, enjoy the the vibes and simple, beautiful dishes.

Come here for: The omelette! Chef Mati Pichci’s version of the French classic might be the best in town (he’s known as ‘the omelette chef’ - not kidding); ex-noma, Atelier September and behind pop-up koncept Psyche whose omelette became the talk of town. Also: light salads, green juices, and great coffee.

Located in Østerbro, just off main street Østerbrogade and Sortedams Lake. Bike out to Nordhavn afterwards for a swim, or visit the many small boutiques in the area.

03 | Lille Bakery

The old shipyard one | Refshaleøen

Here’s the vibe: Perfectly imperfect details and aesthetics on point, Lille Bakery is a beautiful, airy bakery and café. The chilled vibe and menu of fresh, organic food has made Lille a stable on the Copenhagen café map, and the place is pretty busy all year round. Go on a weekday morning for *less* crowds.

Come here for: The custard-filled berliners, brioche with mascarpone and sour Mirabelle plums, flaky veggie rolls, seasonal salads, foccacias, soups… You can’t make a bad decision here. Do bring an appetite!

Located on Refshaleøen across the harbour. Jump on the harbour bus or your bike, and spend the day here: take a swim in the waters during summer (or winter!), catch an exhibition at Copenhagen Contemporary, and grab a meal at Copenhagen Street Food.

04 | Flere Fugle

The low-key bakery | Nordvest

Here’s the vibe: Flere Fugle has become a local favourite in the Nordvest neighbourhood — inside an old garage, this café/bakery/eatery is open from morning until evening. Young families, freelancers working and tourists alike come for the laid-back vibe, courtyard drinks and morning pastries.

Come here for: The pastries — Flere Fugle won Bakery of the Year after opening up in 2022. Also: a hearty breakfast of folded eggs, French Toast, and yoghurt with home-made granola, or a pizza lunch or dinner. Don’t miss the caramel or ‘koldskål’ soft serve during summer!

Located in Nordvest on the outskirts of Nørrebro. Walk or bike out to the stunning Grundtvig’s Church afterwards, or Bispebjerg Cemetery during Sakura season.

05 | studio x kitchen

The design studio / café | City centre

Here’s the vibe: The food is as good-looking as the decor in this café decorated with colourful Alu Chairs by Muller Van Severen, sculptural and rustic wooden furniture, and modern photo artworks.

Come here for: Omelettes, salads, porridge, coffee and cake. Breakfast is served from 8.30am, and you can stop by for an afternoon coffee until 4.30pm. Service here is very friendly, and it’s a great spot for meeting up with friends for a morning coffee.

Located in the city centre neighbouring King’s Garden. Close by is Frama Studio Store, lots of shops around Gammel Mønt, and Kongens Nytorv close by.

06 | Beit Salma

The Lebanese one | Nørrebro

Here’s the vibe: A minimal, but warm interior, just a few tables and a very central location on Nørrebro, Beit Salma is a great option for lunch in the area. It’s relaxed, beautiful, and the Lebanese menu from local, seasonal ingredients is perfectly thought-out and tasty.

Come here for: Lunch, coffee & cake. The menu changes often, and I’m still thinking about that eggplant Baba Ganoush. All is fresh and seasonal, and don’t forget to pop into the backroom where there’s plenty of extra space.

Located on Nørrebro’s Fælledvej, just off Nørrebrogade. Other spots of interest in Nørrebro close by: fried chicken sandwich and natural wines at Pompette/Poulette, small shops at Jægersborggade and Elmegade, Assistens Cemetary for a walk, and SuperKilen park for letting loose the kids and a coffee at Arrebo.

07 | Apollo Bar

The (good!) one in Nyhavn | City centre

Here’s the vibe: In-house café of Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Apollo Bar is a café and bar serving visitors of the museum and fashionable Copenhageners alike. Sitting outside in the courtyard on a sunny summer day in Copenhagen is perfect.

Come here for: Omelettes, salads, coffee and cake. Also, wine and cocktails. Apollo Bar is open for dinner as well, and chef Frederik Bille Brahe and his team are behind the menu, so it’s bound to be good.

Located in the city centre facing Nyhavn, you’re very much in the centre of it all. Nyhavn with its colorful facades in obviously busy, but step inside the courtyard of Charlottenborg and you’ll feel lightyears away from the crowds.

08 | Darcy’s

The geeky coffee one | Nørrebro

Here’s the vibe: A neighbourhood favourite serving quality coffee, food and pastries (oh my goodness, their sugar-coated brioches with filling, or scones, or lemony labneh sando’s with sweet beets on sourdough… ). Great for meeting up with friends, a cosy vibe, and good spots outside in the sun.

Come here for: Breakfast, lunch, coffee and sweets. They do sell out quickly from the popular sando’s of the day, so don’t wait too long for lunch.

Located on Nørrebro. Darcy’s also has a venue on Vesterbro (Sønder Boulevard 43), where I haven’t been, but I’m sure it’s great too.

Rantzausgade 2 | @darcyskaffe

09 | Andersen & Maillard Nordhavn

The minimal one | Nordhavn

Here’s the vibe: With impeccable interiors by architect Danielle Siggerud, this Nordhavn café is a featured in many interior magazines out there. Alas, it gets quite busy especially in summer where lots of tourists come after swimming in the harbour from Nordhavn and visiting showrooms and shops here.

Come here for: Coffee and pastries and buns with cheese. Get it to-go if you’re exploring the area.

Located in Nordhavn, one of Copenhagen’s newly built neighbourhoods just off Østerbro. Jump in the water from the harbour bath, have dinner at Sanchez or Sushi Anaba and stop by Audo’s beautiful café and shop.

10 | Kafeteria SMK

The musuem café | City centre

Here’s the vibe: The in-house café of National Gallery of Denmark, Kaferia run by chef Frederik Bille Brahe merges food, art and beautiful interiors by artist Danh Vo. The large, open room quickly fills up with both museums goers and café guests, but the vibe is warm and welcoming.

Come here for: A late breakfast, lunch or coffee & cakes after your museum visit. Choose between a dish or soup of the day, or menu stables such as buttermilk pancakes, sourdough bread with cheese, home-baked pastries and cakes.

Located inside one of the most beautiful museums in town SMK (Statens Museum for Kunst). A museum ticket is not needed to visit the café, but I highly recommend checking out the current exhibitions at SMK.
